Short Version:
I’m Jacob. I like to read. I’m writing my first book. I hope you enjoy my posts on writing, reading, and random nonsense.
Long Version:
See Jacob Write is a mission.
Enrolled in the Commonwealth Governor’s School of Virginia, one of my
required classes is Culminating. Culminating is a project that “enables
students to thoroughly explore a topic of personal interest.” For the
first year of Culminating (freshman year), you choose a topic and a
question and begin research and analyzing. The following year (sophomore
year), you continue with the last year’s research to create a product.
For my Culminating project, I have decided to write a book. Always an
avid reader, I’ve dabbled in writing once or twice. But I never really
knew what I was doing. And I’ve always been a little wary of writing
book. Wary, as in: A BOOK? A BOOK! OH MY GOSH, THAT’S 300+ PAGES OF MY
OWN WORDS. AND IT SHOULD BE WRITTEN WITHIN A SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF TIME.
AND IT HAS TO SOUND GOOD . . . I’M GOING TO COWER OVER THERE BEHIND THAT
BIG ROCK NOW!
But. I threw down my cowardice. I’ve taken the first step toward
writing my first novel. I’ve done my first year research on writing a
young adult historical novel. And now I’m starting my second year—the
actual writing of the book.
I’m writing a young adult historical bildungsroman that takes place
in 1960s America. I would like to tell the tale of two
twelve-going-on-thirteen year olds with alternating chapters between a
boy and a girl.
From there, the only place left to go is up. I have ideas for
the events of my book, but, for now, I think I’ll leave them unsaid.
I hope you continue to read See Jacob Write because 1) you
will learn new details about my first book, 2) you will receive some
fairly awesome book reviews, and 3) you will support me, a beginning
author.
So See Jacob Write is a mission for me. A mission for me to fully appreciate the English language through reading, writing, and sharing.
Thanks,
Jacob Hopkins
